What Our House Lockout Service Actually Involves
When you call us locked out of your house or flat, the first thing we do is talk you through what type of door and lock you have. That matters because the entry method is different for a traditional timber door with a Yale-type nightlatch and a BS3621 5-lever mortice deadlock than it is for a modern composite or uPVC door with a multipoint locking system and a euro cylinder. Knowing this in advance means the right tools are loaded in the van before we even arrive, saving time for everyone. We also carry out a quick ownership check on arrival — a form of ID and evidence that you are the resident, such as a utility bill or a letter addressed to the property — which is standard practice and protects both you and the property.
Once we are satisfied, our experienced locksmith will attempt non-destructive entry first. This means working with the lock mechanism rather than against it, leaving the cylinder and the door frame undamaged in the vast majority of cases. If the lock is at the end of its life, has been tampered with, or has a snapped euro cylinder — a known vulnerability on many uPVC doors across Camberwell — we will explain the situation clearly and, with your agreement, replace only what needs replacing. We carry a range of anti-snap, TS007 3-star rated cylinders and British Standard mortice locks on the van, so a full lock change can usually be completed in the same visit.
